Although learning French is one of my goals, I had to find a good reason to learn it, and so I came up with these 10 reasons why you should also learn French.
1. A global language
On each of the five continents, more than 300 million people speak French. The OIF is a global organization of French-speaking countries with 88 member countries and governments. After English, French is the second most widely learned foreign language, and it is the fifth most widely spoken language in the world.
Along with English, French is the only language that is taught in every country on the planet. France has the largest international network of cultural institutes, which provide French-language instruction to nearly a million students.
2. A language for the global job market
The ability to communicate in French and English is advantageous in the international job market. Knowledge of French opens doors to French companies in France and other French-speaking countries. France is an important economic partner because it has one of the world’s largest economies and is a popular destination for foreign investment.
3. Culture’s language
Cooking, fashion, theater, visual arts, dance, and architecture all use French as their international language. Knowledge of French provides access to great works of literature, films, and songs in the original French. Victor Hugo, Molière, Léopold Sendar Senghor, Edith Piaf, Jean-Paul Sartre, Alain Delon, and Zinedine Zidane all spoke French!
4. A travel language
France is the world’s most popular tourist destination, with over 87 million visitors each year. The ability to speak even a little French makes visiting Paris and all of France’s regions so much more enjoyable, and it provides insights into France’s culture and way of life. French is also useful when traveling to French-speaking countries.
5. A higher education language
Speaking French opens up opportunities to study at renowned French universities and business schools, which are ranked among the best in Europe and the world.
6. International relations’ other language
The United Nations, the European Union, UNESCO, NATO, the International Olympic Committee, the International Red Cross, and international courts all use French as a working language. The language of the three EU institutions’ headquarters, Strasbourg, Brussels, and Luxembourg, is French.
7. A language that opens up the world
Understanding French allows you to see the world from a different perspective. You can keep up with French thinkers and leaders from around the world, as well as news from the world’s leading French-language international media (e.g., TV5Monde, France 24 and Radio France Internationale).
8. A language that is enjoyable to learn
French is a simple language to grasp. There are numerous methods available on the market that make learning French enjoyable for both children and adults.
9. A language used to learn other languages
French is a good starting point for learning other languages, particularly Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian), as well as English, because a large portion of English vocabulary is derived from French.
10th. The language of love and logic
First and foremost, learning French is a joy because it is a beautiful, rich, melodious language that is often referred to as the language of love. French is also an analytical language that structures thought and fosters critical thinking, which is useful in discussions and negotiations.
