Untrue perceptions about China and Chinese people

What do you think of Chinese people if you’re an American? Have you traveled to China before?

It is unusual to hear a statement from an American that some Americans believe Chairman Mao is still alive. It poses a quandary. What prejudices do Americans hold about China and the Chinese people?

Chinese people are renowned for being traditional and conservative. They are not accustomed to communicating verbally. They do not express their gratitude or love for you as frequently as Americans. They place a lot of emphasis on a woman’s purity, often known as virginity. If raped, a woman might kill herself. Because she is no longer pure, this is the result of discrimination on the part of others. They don’t have a lot of flexibility. Most of them lack religious convictions. They don’t believe in God. However, they are very fond of Buddhism. They value a clan or family. Sometimes, even when they are extremely old, they will continue to live with their parents.

These are, in essence, true. However, things aren’t always the same. Some Americans believe that Chinese people dress in a dated manner, much like individuals did during the Qing Dynasty. They also believe Tibetans are friendly and well-educated. However, mainlanders are rude and uneducated. Instead of stating their human rights, Chinese people tend to focus more on their faces. Chinese students are proficient in mathematics, but they lack manual dexterity.

The media transmits the majority of the information to the American public. It is simple to claim that it contains biases. As more Americans visit China, they might have a unique experience. Their perception of this enigmatic and ancient region may be very different. Both good and bad Chinese people will be visible to them. They will observe both the positive and negative aspects of society. They will experience the enormous wealth disparity present in America.

The individual described in the first paragraph also notes that Americans believe Chinese goods to be inexpensive and adorable. However, they were unable to name a single Chinese brand. Even though they frequently use the products, they have little knowledge of Chinese businesspeople or entrepreneurs. As a result, some public relations firms are focusing on it. There is still much to be done.

In other words, there are some stereotypes about China and Chinese people in America. If they can communicate clearly with one another, it means a lot. People in China frequently give America high marks for its freedom, justice, and optimism. I sincerely hope that Americans will eventually view visas in this manner.
